In the past ten years, the Dukathole Scholars have seen the beaches of Durban, climbed Table Mountain in Cape Town, observed the Big Five on safari, had tea with Constitutional Court Justice Edwin Cameron, were invited to be personal guests of R&B star Maxwell at a concert in Johannesburg, and visited Robbin Island where Nelson Mandela lived for many of his years in captivity, Cultural experiences are an important component in the DSF program, and the key element that sets our program apart from most scholarship programs. We are extrememly grateful for our wonderful and generous sponsors for making these trips possible. Contact us if you would like to get involved in this exciting and educationally critical component of our program.
Our boys at Jeppe
All four of our boys are now enrolled at Jeppe High School for Boys in Jeppestown, Johannesburg. To make this happen we partnered with the Jeppe-based Theo Jackson Scholarship Fund whose objectives are aligned with our own. Read the first newsletter that TJSF has sent out detailing the activities of the organisation and the boys in its care.
The Dukathole Scholars have been doing their very best at school, and we feel proud to share with you some of their achievements! In 2013 Andrew was named Deputy Head Boy at Germinston Primary School, and the following year he earned a Theo Jackson Scholarship at Jeppe High. In 2014 Lynden was named Head Boy at Germiston. This year Ayanda and Lynden are on the first string basketball team and Wayleen is writing poetry that would make Maya Angelou smile. Congratulations to all the Dukathole Scholars! You have struggled against unsurmountable odds to get where you are and we are very proud of each of you.
